DHAKA: Nadia Sharmeen will receive an International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award at a ceremony to be held March 5 at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
In observance of International Women’s Day, the IWOC award honors the courage of extraordinary women worldwide who have played transformative roles in their societies.
US embassy to Dhaka issued a press release in this regard on Thursday.
According to the media release, Nadia Sharmeen is the second Bangladeshi woman to earn this prestigious recognition, and she will be honored along with eight other women leaders from across the globe.
The crime reporter at Ekattor TV and the other awardees will also meet with First Lady Michelle Obama and other U.S. government dignitaries.
Following the IWOC awards ceremony, Nadia will participate in an intensive program of events organized by the U.S. Department of State during which she will meet U.S. women leaders in journalism and other fields.
She along with women’s rights activists from across the globe will join the 59th Commission on the Status of Women to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
