KALKATA: The spectre of crib deaths continued to haunt government-run Malda Medical College and Hospital in the Indian province of West Bengal where some 22 children died in last six days.

The age of the dead children was between one day and seven years. The death news has created sensation across the district.

Infants’ guardians alleged that the hospital authorities are showing negligence in treatment, which the authorities denied.

Presently, nearly 300 children are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Malda Zila Parisahd Sabhadhipati, also member of Patient Welfare Association, Sarala Murmu expressed dissatisfaction over the infant deaths.

Sarala said that situation will be observed and issue of ensuring proper treatment will be discussed with the hospital authorities.

Malda Medical College vice president MA Rashid told that majority of the infants, those died here, were brought to the hospital for admission after they were born outside.

Rashid, however, claimed that hospital doctors are not showing negligence in duty, and giving treatment regularly.

The overall situation has remained under the observation of the authorities concerned, added the vice president.
