Bangladesh and Turkey are set to hold a foreign secretary-level meeting today at the State Guesthouse Padma, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, defence, and politics.
The Bangladesh delegation will be led by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, while Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister A. Berris Ekinci will represent his country. Officials said this is the fourth such meeting between the two nations and the first in more than five years.
A joint statement is expected after the talks, highlighting areas of cooperation including enhanced political engagement, expanded trade relations, and the transformation of defence collaboration into a broader partnership.
On the first day of his visit, Ekinci held separate meetings with leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP).
After today’s talks, he is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain and Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ekinci arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning for his two-day visit.
