The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in four divisions over the next few days, with light to moderate rain likely across most parts of the country.
Meteorologist Dr Md Omar Faruk said a low-pressure area is currently located over the west-central and adjoining north-western Bay of Bengal.
The monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan through several Indian states to the low-pressure zone, stretching into southern Bangladesh and Assam. The monsoon remains moderately active over Bangladesh and the northern Bay.
Until Sunday (Sept 14), the forecast indicates rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Barishal, and Sylhet divisions, and at a few places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Khulna divisions. Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
For the next 24 hours until Monday (Sept 15), most areas in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions and several parts of Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions may see light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds. Some locations may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Daytime temperatures could fall by 1–2°C, while nighttime temperatures may drop slightly.
On Tuesday (Sept 16), rain is likely in most parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Isolated areas may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Both day and night temperatures may drop slightly.
For Wednesday (Sept 17), similar weather is forecast across the same eight divisions. Moderate to very heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of the country. Temperatures are likely to remain stable.
According to the extended five-day forecast, rainfall activity may begin to decrease gradually across the country.
