One convict executed in Rajshahi

NATORE: The death sentence of a dowry-greedy husband was executed in Rajshahi Central jail on Wednesday night, official sources said.

The convict was Abu Bakkar, son of late Khair Uddin of village Paikpara under Lalpur upazila of the district.

According to the case statement, Bakkar slaughtered his wife Rangila over dowry on February 21 in 1998.

Later, Rangila’s father Nabir Uddin filed a murder case against Abu Bakkar under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. He was sentenced to death by a Rajshahi court on February 28, 2001.

Jailer of Rajshahi Central jail Faruque Ahmed told banglanews, “The convict was brought to the gallows at 11:01 PM where hangman Asgar and babul completed the execution of the death sentence in presence of Rajshahi additional district magistrate Dewan Mohammad Abdus samad, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Quamrul Amin, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahrul Islam and Senior jail super Partha Gopal.”

His body was handed over to his family at about 12:20AM.
