DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday (November 6) framed charges against the United Airways chairman and also managing director Tasbirul Ahmed Chowdhury and issued an arrest warrant against him in a cheque scam case.
The court of fifth session judge Nazia Nahid also fixed January 29 of 2017 for commencing the trial in this regard.
Sources from the court and Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
CAAB lawyer Jayanta Kumar Biswas told Banglanews that the court indicted against Tasbirul Ahmed Chowdhury along with the private airline director (HR & Finance) Muhammad Ferdaus Islam in the case.
Sources also said Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport assistant director (accounting) M Anwar Hossain filed a lawsuit against them for their alleged involvement in fraudulence of a Tk 2.1681-crore cheque.
On October 8, 2015, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Hakim M Atiqur Rahman ordered the accused to appear in person on November 12.
The latest order came as the accused did not appear before the court on the given date, sources added.
