Biman staff’s ultimatum till Jul 3

DHAKA: Biman Shramik League President Mashiur Rahman has given ultimatum to its Managing Director Mosaddek Ahmed till July 3 to meet their demand after their Monday’s besieging programme.

He said they would announce fresh programme, including besiege Biman’s chairman office, to press home their demand if these are not met during the period.

Earlier in the day, employees of country’s national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines have besieged the office of its Managing Director to meet their six-point demands.

Agitating staffs gathered Balaka office from 11:00am and at one stage hundreds of them besieged the office of Biman acting boss Mosaddek Ahmed at first floor.

They also chanted slogan against the Biman chief at that time.

Biman Shramik League President Mashiur Rahman announced the programme at airlines’ headquarters in Balaka Bhaban in the city on last Wednesday.

Their demands include introducing organogram for the organization and uniform allowance, cent percent medical allowance, making the job permanent for casuals, increasing food allowance and providing facilities to Biman Flight Catering Centre (BFCC) employees as equal as the employees of the national carrier.

They also demanded dearness allowance from the government declared date.

In January in 2013, Biman employees staged strong movement demanding the introduction of uniform allowance and increasing food allowance. At one stage, they demanded stepping down of Biman chairman Jamal Uddin.

The then civil aviation minister Faruk Khan agreed to meet the demands.

Later, the demands were not passed in the meeting of Biman’s board of directors. Biman sources said that some of directors agreed to meet the demand but its chairmen opposed.
