SYLHET: The easy bike driver, one of the accused in the murder of a woman and her child after raping her in Sylhet, was arrested from Netrokona early on Thursday (April 5).
The easy bike driver, identified as Riaj, 20, was arrested from Kendua area of Netrokona. Riaj, son of Habul Miah, hails from Kalijuri area of Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh.
All the four accused have now been arrested of the rape and murder case, said investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Mayain Uddin to Banglanews.
Meanwhile, the other three accused confessed to their involvement in the murder under section 164 in Senior Judicial Magistrate-1 Court of Sylhet on Tuesday (April 3).
Following confession, the Justice Nazrul Islam gave the order to send them to jail at 9:30 pm on April 3.
The tri were identified as-Jokhlu Miah, 22 son of Jobed Ali, hailing from Gulkapon area of that upazila, Nazrul Islam, 27, son of Late Abdul Mannan, Joynal Miah, 27, son of late Abul Kalam, both hail from the same upazila-
According to their confessional statement, four men strangled a woman and her child to death after kidnapping them, and raping her at night.
After the murder, the miscreants left the bodies in Ekrai haor of Sylhet Osmani Nagar at dawn. Following night, they sprinkled salt over the bodies so as not to identify them.
The deceased were identified as Dipu Malakar, 35, wife of late Debendro Malakar, and their seven-year-old child Bikash Malakar. Dipu Malakar has an elder son.
However, police recovered their melted bodies from Ekrai haor of Sylhet Osmani Nagar upazila on March 24.
After the discovery, Bijoy Malakar, elder son of the deceased, filed a case against some unidentified people with Osmani Nagar Police Station on March 26.
On April 2, Jokhlu Miah was arrested from Godiarchor area of the upazila at mid night.
Later, two other youths were also arrested with information obtained from Jokhlu Miah.
On the night of March 17, Dipu Malakar came to Goala Bazar area of Osmani Nagar Upazila from Madhovpur with her child.
At 10 pm, she got on the easy bike (3-wheeler) for a relative house. On the way, the driver, along with three others, kidnapped them, took them to haor to rape her in turns by these four persons.
