FROM PATURIA FERRY GHAT AREA: Eid home-goers, traveling on Dhaka-Aricha Highway, are experiencing setback due to sluggish movement of hundreds of bus, truck and other small vehicles plying on the road leading to Paturia ferry ghat. Moreover, the same can be told for the other side of Padma River Daulatdia ferry ghat.

Thousands of passengers on Friday (June 23) are experiencing sufferings resulted from up to 5-6 kilometers of tailbacks on the roads leading to ferry terminals on both sides of the river.

One of the bus drivers, standing in the vehicle queue for ferry, told Banglanews that the number of traffics on Dhaka-Aricha highway is so intense that even if one vehicle stops at any point on road then at least 50-60 vehicles lined up behind it creating a huge congestion.

One of the travelers, Rwzaul Kabir, said it took 5 hours to reach Paturia ferry ghat from Dhaka’s Gabtali bus terminal. “This is not a new phenomenon for Paturia-Daulatdia ferri ghat. The suffering keeps repeating during times of Eid every year. We want a remedy now,” said another passenger.

The Paturia-Daulatdia river route is the doorway to Dhaka for residents of 17 south-western districts of the country.

SM Toha, an official of Paturia ferry ghat unit’s commerce department told Banglanews that a total of 17 ferries are operating on the Paturia-Daulatdia route. But the ferries are taking twice as long for each trip due to strong current in the river.
