DHAKA: China Shanghai Technology has offered to provide four thousand modern electric buses for Dhaka city with the view to ease traffic snarl replacing the old unfit ones. 

The proposal came up in a business meeting between the members of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) at the FBCCI auditorium in city’s Motijheel area on Thursday (April 27).

ACFIC official Hua Lee said, “At first we will provide a few buses on experimental basis. If it works, a total of four thousand buses will be provided as a package.” 

FBCCI president Abdul Matlub Ahmed said the Chinese company has expressed their interest to open bus services with up-to-date facilities in a joint venture with Bangladesh.

Mentioning that a Chinese minister is visiting Bangladesh to invest for the first time, Matlub Ahmed said China companies showed interest to invest in power generation, distribution, agro and food processing sectors in Bangladesh.

A business delegation led by Chuen Jiezhu, executive vice chairman of ACFIC, participated in the business meeting where Chinese ambassador in Bnagladesh Ma Ming Chiang and FBCCI secretary general Mir Shahabuddin Mohammad among others were present.
