Coronavirus: AL cancels all Independence Day programs

DHAKA: The ruling party Awami League has cancelled all programs scheduled for March 26, Independence Day of Bangladesh, in a bid to contain coronavirus outbreak.

Party General Secretary Obaidul Quader made the announcement on Monday (March 23) at Secretariat in the capital.

He also said as there is no food crisis in the country right now, stern action will be taken against hoarders for creating artificial crisis.

Besides, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take timely steps as per situation demands, he added. 

Obaidul Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges minister, said transport services would be suspended for preventing the spread of coronavirus, if necessary. 

He also directed public representatives to create awareness among the people about coronavirus. He urged people with coronavirus symptoms to contact the healthcare centers concerned immediately.

The fast spreading coronavirus has so far claimed 14,698 lives worldwide till Monday (March 23) morning

Bangladesh already confirmed total coronavirus 27 cases and two deaths. Of total patients, five recovered and were discharged.
