One victim of Mirpur slum fire dies

DHAKA: A woman on Saturday succumbed to her burn injuries she received from a fire that broke out at a Chalantika Jhilpar slum on Friday (Jan 25).

She died while receiving treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 8:00 am.

The deceased Parvin, 35, sustained around 90% burns on her body, DMCH police outpost Inspector Bachchu Miah said.

Hundreds of people of the Chalantika Jhilpar slum in the capital’s Mirpur 7 area lost their homes and all their possessions in the devastating fire that broke out around 4:15am on Friday.  

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be known. 

The residents of the same slum experienced horrific fire that destroyed several thousand homes earlier on August 16, 2019.
