DHAKA: State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam said the government will look into it why Priya Saha made allegation to US President Donald Trump about oppression of minorities in Bangladesh.

Priya Saha works in a Bangladeshi NGO.

The minister made the statement on a post of his verified Facebook page on Friday (July 19).

M Shahriar Alam said “I have answered various questions on human rights of NGOs, of home and abroad, in the full house of the UN Human Rights a couple of times. Person like respected Rana Dasgupta was also present there. But, I did never see anybody asking questions with allegations made by Priya Saha.”

He also said: “I strongly condemn it.  It will be looked into why she has done this. The government will listen to it and investigate into it.”

Shahriar said Trump in his capacity as the president knows false allegations are made to him. The US administration regularly gets information through its embassy in Dhaka and we always keep in touch.

Priya Saha, he said, went on criticizing different communities when she was criticizing. It is not right just as Priya’s allegations. This kind of attitude is not acceptable from a person who has contacts at different levels of the government.

Shahriar said: “Bangladesh is a good example of religious harmony. Many people tarnish this image either for personal interest or without realization. All should refrain from such acts.”
