18 more Rohingyas rescued in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 18 Rohingyas, who were trying to enter Bangladesh fleeing persecution in Rakhine State of Myanmar, from Hijaaldi border area in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira on Friday morning (Oct 13).

The rescued Rohingyas were identified as- Rupia Khatun, Rokeya, Abu Taher, Abdur Rahim, Rehena Begum, Alimuddin, Shahrukh Khan, Azizur Rahman, Ziarul Islam, Zunaid, Enayetur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman, Zubayer, Sufia Khatun, Rasheda Begum, Gulshan Ara, Sumaiya Bibi and Salma Khatun.

BGB Hijaldi BOP company commander Omar Faruk told Banglanews that 18 Rohingyas were rescued while they were illegally entering into Bangladesh and they are being held at Chandanpur UP member Md Nazrul Islam’s house. Further steps will be taken upon higher authorities’ order. 

Chandanpur UP member Md Nazrul Islam told Banglanews, “The Indian border is 100 yards away from my house and 18 Rohingyas have suddenly come in the morning. I have provided them food and shelter on humanitarian grounds. The rescued Rohingyas claimed that BSF members helped them to cross the border.”
