ACC sues 6 people over curtain scam

FARIDPUR: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against six persons for embezzling Tk10 crore during the purchase of curtains and instruments for Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH).

ACC’s Assistant Director Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury filed the case with ACC Integrated District Office in Faridpur on Wednesday morning.

The accused are Abdullah Al Mamun-proprietor of MS Anik Traders, Munshi Farukh Hossain-proprietor of MS Ahmed Enterprise, Munshi Sazzad Hossain (admin) National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital, Associate Professor (dental) Dr Gonopoti Bishshawash, former Junior Consultant Dr Minakkhi Chakma, and former Pathologist Dr AHM Nurul Islam.

Earlier on Tuesday, the ACC approved the case following a decision taken at a regular meeting, held at the ACC headquarters in Dhaka.

On Aug 20, the High Court directed the ACC to investigate the alleged corruption in FMCH and report to it within six months.

According to the case statement, the FMCH authorities were accused of gross corruption in the procurement of medical machinery and materials, including buying a piece of curtain used as a bed screen for Tk 3.75 million.
