Rajshahi mother-son murder: 3 to die, 4 get life

RAJSHAHI: A Rajshahi court awarded death penalty to three people and life terms imprisonment to four others for killing a mother and her son in Bagmara upazila in 2014.

The court also fined Tk 10,000 each of the lifers, in default; they have to serve six more months imprisonment.  

After examining witnesses and evidence, judge of Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Anup Kumar on Wednesday (September 18) found the seven guilty and pronounced the verdict.

Abul Hossain Master, 52, brother-in-law of the deceased Aklima Begum, Habibur Rahman Habib, 40 of Alipur village of Durgapur upazila of Rajshahi and suspended BGB official Abdur Razzak, 35 were awarded death penalty. 

Abul Hossain is the organizing secretary of Bagmara Upazila Awami League. He is also the head teacher of Deola Rani Riverview High School. 

Besides, Abdullah Al Kafi, 22 of Shyampur village of the same upazila, Ruhul Amin, 30, of the same village of Durgapur upazila of Rajshahi, and Rustam Ali, 26, of Khidrakashipur village and Monirul Islam alias Monir, 23, Khidralaxmipur in Durgapur upazila got life term imprisonment. 

According to the prosecution, some unidentified assailants slaughtered Aklima begun, 45 and her son Zahid Hossain, 25 to death at their house of Deola village in Bagmara upazila  Moazzem Hossain, an activist of the upazila unit of BCL, on November 24 in 2014. 

Later, the victim's elder son Dulal Hossian filed a case with Bagmara Police Station, accusing some unnamed people. The investigation officer of the sensational murder case has changed three times.  

After investigation, PBI inspector Alamgir Hossain later on May 31, 2018 submitted a charge sheet against seven people before the court.
