KHULNA:  Ten persons were sentenced to life in prison by a district court for killing a person in Dighalia upazila of the district.

Public Safety Disturbance Crime Prevention Tribunal of Khulna Judge Md. Saifuzzaman Hero handed down the verdict on Tuesday (August 6).

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each.

The convicts were--Abul Kashem of Padmabila village, Kubbat Munshi, Farooq Molla, Manjurul Shikdar, Md. Iran, Abu Taleb, Humayun Kha, Kabir Mollah and Abdul Gaffer and Khalilur Rahman of Debhata Upazila of Satkhira.

Two accused were acquitted as allegations were not proved.

The two acquitted were--Habib and Mithun.  

Police recovered a small businessman’s slit-throat body--Altu Molla—from Padmabila field in Dighalia on 17 December of 2006, public prosecutor (PP) of the court Arif Mahmud Liton said.

The following day, a case was filed with Dighalia police station.
