DHAKA: Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) launched a drive to seize from market the 52 food items which were banned for being substandard.

On Saturday (May 18), seven DNCRP teams led by its Deputy Director Monjur Mohammad Shahriar, conducted drives in Karwan Bazar, Dhanmondi and New Market areas.

DNCRP Assistant Directors Masum Arefin, Afroza Rahman and Indrani Roy and officials of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and home and commerce ministries took part in the drives.

In the drives, three stores in Karwan Bazar and New Market areas were fined.

Besides, as many as 14 business houses were fined over violating Consumer Rights Protection Act.

If the banned products are sold at the markets, the traders concerned must face tougher action, said DNCRP officials.
