MYMENSINGH: A court here sentenced three persons to death for killing the driver of an auto-rickshaw and snatching the vehicle at Bhaluka upazila in 2011.

The condemned convicts are Ziaul Hasan, 25, Ismail Hossain, 24, and Suruj Miah, 25.

Of them, Suruj was tried in absentia as he is on the run.

Judge of District and Session Judge court-1 of Mymensingh Iqbal Hossain on Sunday (Mar 10) passed the order.

According to prosecution, the three convicts hired the auto-rickshaw of Shafikul Islam, son of Abul Hossain of Kachina Bazar of the upazila on March 12, 2011.

Then, Shafikul Islam along with his auto-rickshaw went missing and later his body was found at Bilaijura cannel in Jamidia Masterbari area in the evening.

Being informed from locals, police recovered the body and handed it to family members after autopsy. 

On March 23, Abul Hossain, father of the victim, filed a case accusing some unnamed people with Bhaluka Police Station.

Later, police arrested Ziaul Hasan and Ismail Hossain and they gave confessional statement to the court 

Then, investigating officer (IO) of the case submitted charge sheet accusing the trio for the murder.

After examining all the records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict.
