India VS England Test Series
5th Test Played at Birmingham United Kingdom from 1-5 July 2022
Scorecard at Stumps day one
India 1st Innings 338/7 in 73 Overs (Rishabh Pant 146, Ravindra Jadeja 83*, Hanuma Vihari 20, James Andesron 3/52, Matthew Potts 2/85)
Major contender for 2021 -23 cycle test championship final India was pushed back to the wall by ageless Anderson (3/52) and budding talent Matthew Potts 2/85 having asked to bat. India was reeling at 98/5.
From there on flamboyant Pant partnering with Jadeja unleashing vicious counterattack took the visitors to a zone of comfort. At stumps of rain curtailed day India finished 338/7. Pant played stroke full 146 in only 111 deliveries striking 19 fours and 4 sixes. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 83. This was the left over fift test of the series suspended earlier for COVID impacts. An Indian win will all but secure its spots for the final of 2021-23 test championship.
The sky was overcast, condition favored seam and swing bowling. With all time best pace attack in possession Stokes had no hesitation to let India bat first after winning the toss. Skilled operator ageless Anderson and a bowler not even born when Anderson played his first test Matthew Potts tormented India (depleted by absence of Rohit and Rahul) reducing them to 5/98 by the 28th over. In came new generation sensation Pant and reliable Jadeja for the rescue mission. Their brave counterattack kept runs flowing at T20 mode. The 6th wicket partnership of 222 not only rescued India but took them to a zone of reasonable safety.
Pant scored 146 scorching runs in 111 deliveries. He exposed the depth of English for consolidating the early inroads the pacers created with the new ball. If India can score anything close to 400 they will be in the driving seat with strong all round attack. The pathetic batting form of Viart Kohli continued as could score only 11 before getting cleaned up by Potts. First innings will be very important as the batting of the two teams are evenly balanced. England let India off the hook for not having quality spinners. However, first session of day two will also be important in setting the fate of the test.
