Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal has announced that he will retire from all forms of cricket if elected in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.
He had earlier confirmed his candidacy, but in a recent interview with a local media outlet, the veteran cricketer stated that assuming the role of a board director would mark the end of his playing career.
“If I become a board director, I will no longer play cricket,” Tamim said. “I don’t think it would look right. If I get elected, I will retire from cricket. However, if not elected, I’ll continue playing, including in the BPL.”
The BCB elections are scheduled for October 4, where current board president Aminul Islam Bulbul will also contest.
The BCB has already formed a three-member election commission. Senior Supreme Court advocate Mohammad Hossain will serve as Chief Election Commissioner, with CID Additional IGP Sibghat Ullah and the Executive Director of the National Sports Council assisting.
According to the official schedule, the draft voter list will be published on September 20, followed by the final voter list on September 21.
Nomination forms can be collected between September 22 and 23, with the submission deadline set for September 25. The list of candidates will be published on September 26, while the withdrawal deadline and distribution of postal and e-ballots are scheduled for September 28.
Voting will take place on October 4. The preliminary results will be announced on the same day, and the final results will be declared on October 5.
The BCB President will be elected by 25 voters representing different bodies: 10 from divisional sports associations, 12 from club representatives, one former captain or institutional representative, and two from the National Sports Council.
Former directors Akram Khan and Mahbub Anam have opted not to run this year. Tamim’s direct involvement has sparked heightened interest within the cricketing community, adding an unexpected twist to what is already shaping up to be a high-stakes BCB election.
