Proteas whitewash Australia, win series 5-0

DHAKA: There was no faltering, there was no drama, and there was no denying SA the prize they had come to collect at Newlands on Wednesday.

They won the fifth one-day international by 31 runs to become the first team to inflict a 5-0 hiding on Australia, reports timeslive.

SA scored 327/8 and dismissed Australia for 296 in 48.2 overs.

Despite a defiant century by David Warner the Australians were rarely in the running for a target that was 70 runs bigger than any successfully chased in the 38 ODIs played here.

The home side’s tower of runs was built on the performance of Rilee Rossouw, who hammered 122-run.

A replacement for the injured AB de Villiers, Rossouw scored half-centuries in the first two matches. Duminy scored 73 while Miller took 39-run.

Australia’s Mennie and Tremain picked up three wickets each while Boland took two.

In response, Aussie opener David Warner, who survived a caught behind for 11 in the sixth over when Kagiso Rabada found the edge, hit a magnificent 173. It is the highest score by an Australian in ODIs against SA.

None other could manifest such determination as only three other players reached in double digit score. M Marsh, T Head and Finch took 35, 35 and 19 runs respectively.

Imran Tahir, Abbott and Rabada picked up two wickets each while Phehlukwayo took one. Three Australian batsmen ran themselves out.
