England to face Kiwis in 1st semi-final

DHAKA: Smart New Zealand is set to face England in the first semi-final of ICC World Twenty20 at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi of India on Wednesday (March 30).

Till now, the Kiwis have shown the capability of reading pitches of India like oracles and assembled team accordingly that worked tremendous job.

They, once again, will expect something like those today.

New Zealand had not played in Asia since late 2014, but they have progressed into the semi-finals as the only undefeated side.

Team-mates described Kane Williamson as a “great captain”. Coach Mike Hesson also has sharpened New Zealand’s wit.

England, on the other hand, have been tempered in three scrapes, since losing their first match to West Indies.

Their batsmen made a wonder by chasing down 230-run target against South Africa. Later, their bowlers held nerve against as Afghanistan.

Finally, it was the efforts of Joe Root and Ben Stokes that took them ashore when the Sri Lankans appeared to be stealing away the must-win match.

The Kiwis, however, have not been tested in chasing.

England (probable): Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Jos Buttler (wk), Eoin Morgan (C), Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Chris Jordan, David Willey, Liam Plunkett.

New Zealand (probable): Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson (C), Colin Munro, Corey Anderson, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Luke Ronchi (wk), Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, Mitchell McClenaghan
