Curtain up on T20 for handicapped

DHAKA: The T20 tournament of physically handicapped has started in Dhaka on Wednesday with the participation of five countries, including Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the event at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in city’s Mirpur area around 11:00am.

The tournament for disabled cricketers will be held for a period of nine days from September 2 to September 10.

The first match between Bangladesh and England was scheduled to start at 11:00am local time. But the match delayed due to rain.

International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has arranged the tournament in cooperation with Youth and Sports Ministry, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Bangladesh Krira
Shikkha Protishtan aiming to reach the message ‘physically handicapped also can play positive role in society’ to the world.

State minister for youth and sports Biren Sikder, deputy minister Arif Khan Joy, BCB president Nazmul Hassan, among others, were present at the ceremony.
