Mushfiqur, Shakib resume batting on Day 3

DHAKA: Captain Mushfiqur Rahim and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan resumed their batting on the Day 3 morning on Thursday with the primary intention to pursue the first innings deficit against the visiting South Africa at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

Bangladesh have scored 189 losing 4 wickets after 71-over. Mushfiqur Rahim is playing on 24 while Shakib Al Hasan is on 3.

Scores Wednesday at stumps on the Day 2 of the:

South Africa 248 all out (D Elgar 47, S van Zyl 34, F du Plessis 48, Bavuma 54; Mustafizur Rahman 4-37, Jubair Hossain 3-53).  

Bangladesh 179-4 (Tamim Iqbal 57, Mahmudullah 67).

Bangladesh were trailed by 69 runs with six wickets remaining at stumps on the rain interrupted second day on Wednesday.

In response to the visitors’ 248 runs in the first innings, Bangladesh reached 179 for four after 67-over in the opening match.

At first Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque returned the pavilion scoring 26 and 2 runs respectively.

S van Zyl and SR Harmer took one wicket each. Imrul was stumped down in a Zyl's ball after scoring 26 while Harmer bowled Mominul Haque out at his 6 runs.

Tamim scored 57 off 129 balls before D Elgar had bowled him out. The host lost its fourth wicket as Mahmudullah got trapped lbw by Philander. The opener however took the highest 67 runs of 138 balls.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan will resume the 3rd day innings with their 16 and 1 respectively on Thursday, if weather is fine.  

Later Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah were out on the crease with 37 and 27 runs.

Earlier on Tuesday, the visitors were all out for 248 in their first innings as debutant Mustafizur Rahman bagged 4 wickets and Jubair 3 wickets. South Africa captain Hashim Amla won the toss and elected to bat first in the first Test.

Mustafizur Rahman took four wickets (including triple wicket maiden) Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Q de Kock and Temba Bavuma.

Jubair Hossain took the second highest wickets by sending VD Philander, SR Harmer and DW Steyn back to pavilion.
