Women’s World Cup: Pakistan to bat first vs Bangladesh

Bangladesh and Pakistan are set to clash in the Women’s Cricket World Cup as both sides aim to make an impact in the tournament.

The match is taking place at a bright and hot Colombo venue, with temperatures around 32°C and high humidity, according to officials.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first on what has been described by commentators as a flat, batting-friendly pitch with a bit of grass to bind it together.

Analysts predict a par score of 260–265, noting that the surface is unlikely to assist spin or seam significantly.

Bangladesh fielded a side featuring debutant Rubya Haider, who will have to wait for her first ODI innings as Bangladesh bowls first.

Captain Nigar Sultana said the team has been preparing rigorously through fitness camps and practice sessions, aiming to translate that preparation into a strong performance.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana expressed confidence in her team, noting that three players are making their World Cup debuts. She highlighted the competitive nature of the tournament, adding that good cricket against Bangladesh could set the tone for the rest of the campaign.

Historically, the two sides are evenly matched, with their last four encounters producing two wins each, including one that went to a Super Over.

Bangladesh enters the match buoyed by a thrilling warm-up victory over Sri Lanka, while Pakistan looks to improve on a modest World Cup record.

Bangladesh’s playing XI includes Farqana Hoque, Rubya Haider, Sharmin Akhter, Nigar Sultana (captain, wicketkeeper), Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Fahima Khatun, Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, and Nishita Akter.

Pakistan’s side features Muneeba Ali, Omaima Sohail, Sidra Amin, Aliya Riaz, Natalia Pervaiz, Fatima Sana, Sidra Nawaz, Rameen Shamim, Nashra Sandhu, Diana Baig, and Sadia Iqbal.

The match promises to be closely contested, with both teams looking to establish momentum in the early stages of the World Cup.
