The Bangladesh women's football team wrapped up their campaign in the Jordan 2025 Friendly Tournament with a 2-2 draw against the hosts at the King Abdullah II Stadium in Amman on Tuesday night. The result reflects the team’s ongoing progress.
Jordan, ranked 74th in the FIFA rankings, had previously defeated Bangladesh 5-0 in their last meeting in 2021. However, this time the 133rd-ranked Bangladesh side showed notable improvement.
Jordan took an early lead in the fifth minute with a goal from captain Maysa Jebarah.
Bangladesh stayed focused and managed to equalise just before halftime, thanks to a well-placed shot by Shamsunahar Jr.
Jordan went ahead again in the 58th minute through a goal by Bana Bitar. But Bangladesh kept pressing and found the equaliser in the 83rd minute when Shaheda Akter Ripa scored, rounding off a determined team performance.
The result echoed the confidence shared by midfielder Maria Manda before the match, as she had mentioned the team’s readiness to play good football and aim for a positive result.
Although the win just slipped away, the draw was still a strong result for the team, which continues to develop with each match.
Earlier, Bangladesh played to a 0-0 draw against Indonesia — ranked 94th — in their opening match on Saturday.
These two consecutive results against higher-ranked teams are promising for Bangladesh, who are preparing for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers later this month.
Assistant coach Mahbubur Rahman Litu had commented before the match that the team was improving with every game.
That remark seems well supported now, as Bangladesh conclude the tournament unbeaten and more confident ahead of their next challenges.
