Govt. out to cling to power amending constitution: Delwar at demo

DHAKA: BNP leaders Sunday deplored that the government goes great guns to amend the constitution trying to cling to power, as the main opposition party staged a demonstration in the capital against the government’s various measures.

The criticism came from a protest rally organized by BNP at Muktangan to protest the government refusal to allow them to hold a mass-hunger strike at Paltan as part of their anti-government movement.

\\\"We’ll stage demonstrations wherever our programme will be obstructed by the government,\\\" said BNP Secretary-General Khandaker Delwar Hossain while addressing the rally.

Delwar demanded withdrawal of all the cases against BNP leaders-activists and release of all political prisoners.

Besides, BNP Senior Joint-Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged all to stand against the constitution amendment unitedly.

He said, “We have to protest amendment of the constitution and reintroduction of ‘Baksal’.”

Mirza Fakhrul urged all to protest what he said government’s injustice and repression being meted out to the BNP leaders and activists.

Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman, Chairperson’s Adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Joint-Secretary-General Aman Ullah Aman, Opposition Chief Whip Joinul Abdin Faruque and Organizing Secretary Fazlul Haq Milon, among others, spoke at the rally.
