HC asks cops to find out Chy Alam

DHAKA: The High Court Monday directed the chiefs Police and elite-force Rapid Action Battalion to take immediate legal steps to rescue opposition BNP leader and Dhaka city councilor Chowdhury Alam.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Syeda Afsar Jahan issued the order for the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

The court order came upon a writ petition filed by Alam`s son Abu Syed Chowdhury on July 6, while the opposition party went on clobbering the government over the issue of disappearance of the neo-rich city councilor and BNP leader.

Chowdhury Alam went missing from the city`s Farmgate area on June 25.

Later talking to journalists, plaintiff’s lawyer Barrister Moudud Ahmed harshly criticized the government’s inability to trace the councilor after so many days.

“A citizen remains missing in an independent country but the government cannot give any information of him,” the former law minister and veteran BNP leader said on a note of exclamation.
