Expand party membership, but exclude Awami terrorists: Mintoo

BNP Vice Chairman and chief of the party’s Barishal Divisional Organising Team Abdul Awal Mintoo today (June 28) said the party must bring in new members to stay strong, as many people have not been able to vote for the last 20 years.

Addressing a membership distribution and renewal programme at Ashwini Kumar Town Hall in Barishal city, Mintoo said if the party does not expand its base, many young people eligible to vote will drift towards other parties.

“We have to make new members. Otherwise, they will join other parties. But we must ensure that Awami League terrorists, corrupt people, and criminals do not enter BNP,” he said.

He said only those who believe in BNP’s ideals and the 31-point reform plan announced by Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman should be welcomed as members.

“If we do not increase the number of members, BNP will not remain a large party,” he added.

Mintoo also called for unity within the party, saying there can be competition among leaders and activists but no conflict.

“In the next election, we must work for whoever the party nominates, so that we can go to power and meet people’s expectations,” he said.

The event was presided over by BNP Joint Organising Secretary Akon Kuddusur Rahman and conducted by Joint Organising Secretary Mahbubul Haque Nannu.

BNP Central Member Secretary M Rashiduzzaman Millat inaugurated the programme.

Advisers to the BNP Chairperson, Mojibur Rahman Sarwar, Saif Mahmud Jewel, former Secretary General of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), and Central Member Tarikul Alam Tenzing were also present.
