National Election possible before December: Tarique Rahman

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said it’s possible to hold next national election before December, if this government has the right intention.

He made the remark on Thursday (May 29) while speaking virtually from London at a discussion organised at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka’s Ramna.

The event marked the 44th death anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.

Tarique Rahman said, “We believe that if the proposed reforms are completed and if their intention is genuine, elections can be held by December. But even before that is possible.”

He criticised the government for not announcing an election date even after 10 months since the last polls, saying it has created uncertainty in politics and the state.

Tarique said the interim government has no direct connection with the people.

“If problems could be solved only through the administration and files, there would be no need for politics,” he added.
