Tahsin Bahar Suchona, the organizing secretary of the Cumilla city unit of Awami League, emerged victorious in the city corporation by-polls held on Saturday (March 9).

She will be the first female mayor of Cumilla City Corporation.

The results were announced at 7:00pm today by Cumilla City Corporation polls returning officer Farhad Hossen, at the Cumilla District School Auditorium.

Suchona, daughter of MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar, contested in the Cumilla City Corporation with her electoral symbol bus and bagged 48,890 votes.

Her nearest candidate, BNP leader Monirul Haque Sakku, who took part in the election with his electoral symbol Table Clock, secured 26, 897 votes.

Cumilla City Corporation included 27 wards and 105 centres in two upazilas - Adarsha Sadar and Sadar Dakshin. 

According to the District Returning Officer's office, there were 242,458 voters in Cumilla City Corporation.
