Commuters suffer as Dhaka traffic paralyzed

Commuters in Dhaka have been stuck for hours in traffic jams in different areas today (October 2).

Rain that started in the morning caused severe traffic concessions in several points of Dhaka, including Abdullahpur, Uttara, Airport, Khilkhet, Biswa Road, Banani, and Kuril Pragti Swarani.

Vehicles were seen stalled for hours on the road. 

Besides, city commuters suffer from the regular traffic jam caused by multiple developments works on roads. 

According to the passengers, the road from Banani to the airport and from Uttara to the airport has come to a standstill. Vehicles were seen standing for hours. At one stage, the passengers were seen leaving for their destinations on foot.

Md Nahian, a commuter, said, "Due to traffic jam, I started walking towards office on foot. Even walking properly has become difficult due to the pressure of people on the streets."

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Traffic North Division of DMP Badrul Hasan said that the airport road is at a standstill. No vehicle can leave and enter Dhaka. As a result, traffic jams have increased and this has affected the capital as well.

He said Due to waterlogging, heavy traffic has been occurred. The traffic department is trying its best to keep the traffic normal.
