Mohammed Ayat, another victim of the Mirsarai train-microbus collision died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Friday (August 5, 2022), raising the death toll to 12.
CMCH Neurosurgery Department Head Professor Dr SM Noman Khaled Chowdhury said that Ayat died around 2:15pm while undergoing treatment at CMCH.
Noman Khaled also said, "Ayat was treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) as his oxygen saturation was very low. Besides, he suffered severe head and neck injuries in the accident."
“Ayat condition started to deteriorate this morning,” he added.
Earlier on July 29, 11 passengers of a microbus were killed and seven others injured as a train hit a microbus at a rail crossing in Chattogram's Mirsarai area.
The incident occurred around 1:30pm in Borotakiya area of Mirsharai.
According to locals, the microbus got hit by the Chattogram-bound Mahanagar Provati express while trying to cross the railway line at a high speed and dragging it several hundred metres down the railway track.
Earlier on August 3, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directive to the government to give compensation to the families of victims who died or were injured in recent train accidents in Mirsharai and Gopalganj.
Besides, the judicial investigation was also sought in the writ petition into the recent railway crossing accidents.
