A rickshaw driver and two of its passengers were killed as a truck hit the vehicle at Burichang upazila in Cumilla district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as the rickshaw driver Ismail Hossain Sagor, 30, a resident of Mainamati union under the upazila, Abdul Ahad, 29, and Abu Yousuf, 22, from Moulvibazar district.

Mainamati Highway Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Abdur Rahman confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

He said a truck hit a rickshaw while the passengers were paying rent to it's driver on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway at Mainamati Saheb Bazar around 6:00am, leaving the trio dead on the spot.

Police, however, seized the vehicle and detained the driver and his assistant, the SI added.
