DHAKA: A three-year-old boy was killed, his parents and older sister sustained burn injuries as a gas pipeline exploded in Dhaka’s Bangshal area on Thursday morning (July 23).
The incident occurred in Kosaituli area around 8:15am.
The deceased was identified as Moinul. The injured are- Jabed Hossain, 30, his wife Shiuli Akhter, 25, and their daughter Zannatul Islam, 4.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, said the wounded were admitted to the hospital with severe burn injuries.
Zabed, Shiuli and Zannat sustained 37, 16 and 60 percent burns in their bodies respectively, he said.
Confirming the matter, Bangshal police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Idris Ali said: “A gas pipeline adjacent to a road exploded partially collapsing a wall of a house. Moinul was crushed to death in the collapse while the other family members sustained burn from the explosion.”
Locals said the pipeline was repaired on Wednesday (July 22). However, supposedly the repair work was not done well and there might have been a leak persisted on the line. The explosion could have originated from a lit cigarette, he added.
