Yaba trader killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘shootout’

COX’S BAZAR: A yaba trader was killed during a shootout with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf upazila of the district on Friday (August 24).

The deceased was identified as Azizur Rahman Azad, 42, son of Anisur Rahman, hailed from Shyampur area of Savar.

Around 20,000 yaba tablets, a burnt microbus, a foreign pistol, 3 rounds of bullet shells and 3 rounds of fresh bullets were recovered from the spot.

A microbus, carrying a shipment of yaba pills, was heading for Dhaka from Teknaf. On information, a team of RAB started checking out vehicles in front of Teknaf Palli Bidyut office. At that point, RAB signaled the microbus to pull up, but it didn’t respond. On the contrary, microbus driver started firing at RAB, RAB retaliated in self defense, killing the driver on the spot, sources said.

Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Ranjeet Kumar Barua said dead body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
