BAGERHAT: Forrest Department personnel detained a poacher with a skull and some 157 pieces of bones of tiger in Sonatala village under Sarankhola upazila of Bagerhat district on Tuesday.
The detainee was identified as Chhagir Gharami, 45, son of late Yusuf Gharami of the village.
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Kamal Uddin Ahmed of Sundarbans East Forest Division confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Kamal said that tipped-off, a Forrest Department team raided Chhagir’s house in the village around 8:45am and recovered a skull and some 157 pieces of tiger’s bones. They also seized some 10 kilograms of net, which was used to hunt dear and tiger.
Divisional Forest Officer M Amir Hossain of Sundarbans East Division told banglanews that Chhagir was actively involved in poaching and hutting wild animals including Royal Bengal Tigers.
The detainee is also accused in different cases under Wildlife (Preservation and Security) Acts and one more lawsuit will be lodged against him, Amir said.
