People rescued after cargo capsizes off Bhola

BHOLA: Missing people of the capsized cargo ship were rescued from river Meghna near Patarchar of Manpura upazila in Bhola district on Monday.

The vessel ‘Mia Jamir Shah’, with goods including rice and pulse, was heading towards Manpura from Barisal and capsized in the river off Patarchar due to storm this morning.

The missing five persons, who were stuck inside the vessel, managed to come out. Later, fishermen rescued them from the river to Choumuhani.

However, two groups of police and Coast Guard were sent from Manpura and Tajumuddin upazilas to the spot but the cargo has yet to be salvaged till filing the report.

Coast Guard south zone petty officer Pabitra Singha told banglanews that they are trying to salvage the partially sunk cargo.

Tajumuddin Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Humayun Kabir said that one-third portion of the cargo ship is now under water as it was hit by a storm in the morning.
