MEHERPUR: Three robbers were beaten to death by angry mob in Rajapur village under Sadar Upazila on Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified Faruk Hossain, 36, son of Abdur Razzak, and Rafiq Hossain, 42, son of Nazer Ali of Chokshaymnagar village of Sadar upazila, and Sahriful Islam, son of Ayub Ali of  Juginda village of Gangni Upazlia.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Hamidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police sources said a gang of 10/12 robbers stormed in the village around 11:30pm.  Subsequently, villagers altogether chased the robbers, caught three gang members and gave them a mass beating. Killing one on the spot and injuring two others critically.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot, rescued the injured robbers and took them to Meherpur General Hospital.

The two injured succumbed to their injuries on way to the hospital, on-duty doctor Mahabub Hossain of the hospital told banglanews.

Police also recovered a home-made pistol and a round of bullet from the robbers’ possession.
   
The bodies have been kelp at the hospital morgue, followed by handing over those to their families after autopsy.

The deceased were accused in number of robbing cases in different thanas including that of Meherpur district, said the SP.
