Diplomats meet Khaleda, urge to end violence

DHAKA: The diplomats of 16 countries stationed in Dhaka on Tuesday met BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia with an urge to end the ongoing political violence.

The group of Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Charges d’Affaires met Khaleda Zia at her political office in city’s Gulshan area in the evening to discuss current events in Bangladesh.

The diplomats encouraged confidence-building measures including the de-escalation of country’s political conflict in the interest of fostering safety, stability, growth, human rights and democracy in Bangladesh. 

A media release, issued by Australian High Commission, said they called for an end to the continuing violence recalling their previous statements on recent events in Bangladesh, and those by the UN. 

The envoys of Australia, Canada, Denmark, EU, France, Germany, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States were present there.
