Govt welcomes US offer to look into Avijit murder

DHAKA: Bangladesh government on Sunday welcomed the US offer to help investigate the murder of blogger and writer Avijit Roy.

Foreign ministry senior secretary Dr Mohammad Mozammel Haque Khan made the comment to banglanews regarding the US assistance.

He said that it will be very good if the American investigation agency can unearth the mystery of Avijit killing.

Mentioning an informal discussion on the killing, the secretary further said that they have yet to get any formal proposal from the US government.

Earlier on February 27, US Department of State spokesperson Jen Psaki, at a daily press briefing in Washington DC, condemned the brutal murder of Avijit Roy.

She further said, “We’re also – stand ready to assist in the investigation if asked.”

However, a group of unidentified miscreants hacked the founding blogger of mukto-mona.com and writer Avijit to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Banna seriously injured at TSC intersection on DU premises Thursday night (February 26) while the couple coming out of ‘Amar Ekushey Book Fair’.
