DHAKA: Slain blogger and writer Avijit Roy’s body has been donated to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday.
Sources told banglanews that remains of the deceased was handed over around 1:00pm to the anatomy department of the college for research.
The deceased’s father Dr Ajay Roy, also a former Dhaka University (DU) teacher, donated the body following his son’s will, sources added.
However, DMCH principal Dr M Ismail Khan took the custody of the remains in the presence of anatomy department’s coordinator Shamim Ara and Avijit’s family members.
The body will be used for research after keeping frozen for about three months.
Earlier, people from all walks of life paid their tributes to Avijit on the campuses of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Dhaka University.
A group of unidentified miscreants hacked the founding blogger of mukto-mona.com and writer Avijit to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Banna seriously injured at TSC intersection on DU premises Thursday night while the couple coming out of ‘Amar Ekushey Book Fair’.
Nevertheless, Banna, still in critical condition, is undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
