MYMENSINGH: A Mymensingh court awarded life-term imprisonment to 13 people and 10-year rigorous jail to two others in five-murder case.

District Special Sessions Judge Dr Mohammad Amir Uddin passed the order on Wednesday noon.

The convicts are Sirajul, Abdus Sattar, Manik, Barek, Azizul, Fazlul Karim, Safur Uddin, Nur Mohammad, Kasem, Haque Mia, Abu Taher alias Nakul, Ramjan and Abul Khayer.

They also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default, to serve six more months in imprisonment.

Among the convicts, Abdus Sattar remained fugitive. Other two are Jasim Uddin alias Jusu and Abdur Razzak.

They were also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default of which they would have to serve more three months imprisonment.

Plaintiffs lawyer Sanjib Kumar Sarkar said the convicts chopped to death five members of a family over a trifling matter on May 9 in 1997 and torched nine house in Gobinnagar village under Haluaghat upazila.

The next day, one member of the family filed a case against 107 people with the Haluaghat Thana.
