MV Mostafa capsize: 11 still missing

PATURIA (MANIKGANJ): At least 11 ill-fated passengers of the sunken launch MV Mostafa are still missing.

The missing list, however, includes six women and five men.

They are Abul Hossain Hasu, son of a late Joynal Abdein of Teota village; Sohrab Hossain, son of Afaj Uddin of Elachipur village and Mannu of Charkushanda village under Shibaloy upazila of Manikganj.

The list also includes Mostafa Mahfuz of Dhaka’s Mohakhali area; Marufa Khatun, daughter of Nazmul Hossain, living in Dalilpur village under Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah and Azirunnesa, wife of Seken Ali of Muradnagar village of Pangsha upazila in Rajbari.

Shaheda Begum, wife of Hashem Ali, living in Lohagara upazila of Natore and Lipi Akhter, wife of Milon Sheikh, hailing from Jadabpur village of Kumarkhali in Kushtia are also in the list.

Moreover, Anwara Begum, wife of Aiyub Ali, living in Narail; Hamida Begum, hailing from Lambar Char under Lohagara upazila of Narail; and Jewel Rana, son of Nur Islam, living in Bhanga of Faridpur conclude the list.

Confirming the matter, Shibaloy Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) AKM Galib Khan told banglanews that the family members of the above mentioned people claimed that they were on the vessel and still missing.

However, divers of fire service and civil defense recovered 71 bodies, in which 69 have already been handed over to their relatives, from the sunken launch till Monday.

Moreover, body of a passenger Subol Sutra Dhar (62) was recovered from the river in Shibaloy upazila area on Tuesday evening.

Body of an unidentified female was handed over to Anjuman-E-Mofidul Islam Tuesday noon to bury.

However, MV Mostafa, heading for Daulatdia, capsized after being hit by a Baghabari-bound fertilizer-laden cargo in the middle of the river Padma around 11:45am on Sunday.

BIWTA former chairman Shamsudduha Khondaker announced that family members of the each deceased of the sunken launch will get Tk 1.25 lakh.
