President signs 16th amendment bill

DHAKA: President M Abdul Hamid has given his approval and signed the constitution (16th Amendment) bill.
After the President’s approval, the bill has turned into a law.

A competent source from the Parliament Secretariat confirmed the matter to banglanews on Monday.

On September 17, a total of 327 members of parliament voted for the bill and passed it at the parliament.

This bill empowered the Parliament to impeach Supreme Court judges which is similar to the constitution of 1972 for incapacity.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) urged President Abdul Hamid not to sign the bill and send it back to Parliament for reconsideration.
