Dr. Atiar surrenders, sent to jail

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Dr Atiar Rahman, an assistant professor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, who earlier fled the courtroom after denying bail, to jail.

Acting judge of Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court Zakia Pervin passed the order after Atiar surrendered before the court.

On August 27, two physicians including Atiar fled away from the dock upon being heard that they had been denied bail prayers in a graft case relating to embezzlement of TK 2.31 crore.

Seven people, including four doctors of DMCH, surrendered before the court in a corruption case and sought bail. They court sent them to jail rejecting the bail petition.

On November 16, 2011, Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with the city’s Shahbagh Thana accusing them of misappropriating of the money.

ACC submitted the charge sheet in the case on May 15 this year following the investigation.
