DHAKA: Despite pressures at home and abroad, Bangladesh continued trial procedure for war criminals for their crimes against humanity in 1971. The USA strongly supports the trial.

US Global Criminal Justice affairs ambassador-at-large Stephen J Rapp said while he came to courtesy visit International War Crime Tribunal on Monday noon.

During the visit, Rapp met judges of the tribunal and investigation officials as well.

After the visit, the US envoy expressed his satisfaction to media saying that the judges continued their duties neutrally ignoring all sorts of pressure.

The US has strong support in this regard, he added.

According to him, both the prosecution and defense got equal opportunities to prove themselves.

He further said it is very important for Bangladesh to ensure trial for the people who committed crime against humanity during its war of independence in 1971.
