NOAKHALI: Two fishermen drowned as a trawler capsized in Meghna River in Tehengar Char under Hatia upazila of the district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Shaharaj, 35 and Noor Islam, 32, residents of the upazila.

Locals said that 20 fishermen sailed their trawler for fishing on Sunday night.

At one stage of their fishing, the trawler on early Monday was hit by a sudden storm and sank into the river.

However, their bodies were recovered from the river.

Eighteen others of the boat managed to swim to the bank.

Officer-in-Charge of Hatia Thana Syed M Fazle Rabbi confirmed the matter to banglanews.
