Tuba workers to besiege BGMEA Tuesday

DHAKA: Demanding their due salaries and bonuses, garment workers of Tuba Group will besiege Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) building in city on Tuesday.

Workers of other factories will stage demonstrations on Monday in other industrial areas.

Besides, mass hunger strike program will also continue in front of Tuba’s garment factories in city’s Badda area.

Garments Workers Unity Forum leader Moshrefa Mishu announced the program at a press conference on Sunday noon.

She also expressed her determination in achieving the 5-point demands of the garment workers.

The demands include punishment of Tuba Group owner Delwar Hossain, payment of salaries and bonuses of Tuba workers, arranging reemployment of workers, ensuring compensation of Tazreen victims and also for the workers who have been affected due to the movements.

Complains also came from the press conference that both the government and the garment owners’ organization BGMEA took little measures in solving the problems.

The garment workers do not pay any heed to the speeches of hope from the government and BGMEA, the worker leaders vowed in the conference.

They also threatened tougher movement if their demands are not met.

However, about one thousand and 600 workers have been staging demonstration for their salaries and bonuses in five factories of Toba Group.

They, on last Monday, called for a mass fasting program till death. Around five hundred workers fell sick. Twenty of them are admitted in hospitals.
